The mid-morning air is cool and there always seems to be dew lingering on the ground or bench you may
choose to sit on. I love the fall season of the year in Michigan with the vivid colored leaves in shades of yellow, orange, and deep shades of red. I even like the crunching sound they make under your feet as you walk through them. Or the musty smell in the air from dampness as the leaves begin to pile up on one another, turning them into compost. I only wish the season was not so short, that I would have more time to be in awe of the color as it changes.

In Michigan, there is a Fall Color Tour you can take as the color change begins in the Upper Peninsula and makes its descent down to the lower part of our state first striking the Traverse City area, and then down the Western shoreline. As you traverse along the highway, fallen-colored leaves line your pathway as you pass welcoming farms and orchards.

I have so much family still residing in the Upper Peninsula, that I am fortunate to get some beautiful reference photos to paint from. This scene of Covered Drive, photographed by my middle brother for my painting pleasure always reminds me of a church chapel. The trees have bent to one another to form an arch of gold, and as the leaves change, I feel I am seeing the brilliance of stained glass windows lining the sanctuary.

The 'road less traveled' heads one off into the glorious glow of God's country.
